I'm old. The first computer I used was a Radio Shack TRS-80, which belong to a friend of my dad. I also remember using a ZX81, which I think was borrowed, possibly from the school my dad taught at. My dad's first computer, so the first one I had fairly regular access to was a Video Genie. As standard, it only had upper case characters, if you wanted lower case letters, you had to buy a chip with the characters on it, and fit it inside the computer. ## Sinclair ZX Spectrum My first computer - a Spectrum 48k. My parents had wanted to get the 16k, but they were *the* sought-after gift that Christmas, and they didn't get a choice. As I remember the story being told to me, we were out shopping in a big shopping centre somewhere, when they overheard a rumour that WHSmith had got some Spectrums arriving any moment. My mum took me off somewhere else while my dad went to try to get one. A staff member stood on a chair behind the counter, and people crowded around, holding cash in the air. They'd take cash from a hand, and put a Spectrum in it. I was quite sure I wasn't getting a computer of my own until I was older, so it was a compete surprise on Christmas morning. I think some sneakiness may have happened, as I thought I'd unwrapped everything and was very happy with my new stuff, when my mum pointed out "I think you've missed one box." I learned every spec I could from the manual, and was probably quite insufferable for anyone who made the mistake of asking "what did you get for Christmas?" They didn't just get "a Spectrum", which would already have been too much information for most of them, they got the memory, the number of colours it could output, the resolution, the full spec of the sound system, and anything else I'd memorised. Yes, I *was* an annoying little shit. ## Acorn Electron ## BBC Micro Model B ## Wyse 286 PC ## Custom built 486SX PC ## Other PCs ## Toshiba Laptop (Satellite Pro?) ## Toshiba Tablet ## iMac
